　　Good morning, my name is Anya Daneez

　　and I would like to talk about STEM education in the era of artificial intelligence

　　今天我想和大家談談有關人工智能時代的STEM教育問題

　　Today is International Day of girls and women in science and technology

　　今天是婦女和女童參與科學國際日

　　Today there are still T-shirts and bags at shops that say girls can do anything

　　現(xiàn)在商店里還有些襯衫和袋子 上面印著女孩無所不能的標語

　　When I see those messages I think to myself

　　當我看到這類標語時 我心里就會想著

　　Isn't that obvious, of course girls can do anything?

　　這不是很明顯嗎?女孩子當然可以做任何事情

　　It's such a clear truth

　　這是顯而易見的事實

　　Why aren't there T-shirts that say boys can do anything?

　　為什么就沒有寫著男孩無所不能的標語的襯衫呢?

　　I hope in my lifetime there will be no need for such things as girls days and anything

　　我希望在我有生之年 不再有此類專門為女生設立的節(jié)日

　　It will just be science and technology day for all

　　而是為所有人共同設立的科學日

　　We read stories about Cinderella's getting rescued by prince and becoming princesses all the time

　　我們經常會讀到像是灰姑娘被王子救出來然后成為公主的故事

　　I never wanted to be a princess who's rescued

　　我從不想要成為一個被解救的公主

　　Our princess who's my role model is Her Royal Highness Princess Miss Raine

　　A scientist in a girls in science advocate

　　whose work puts her in a class even higher than her regal title

　　Today I proudly stand before you

　　because some incredible woman in history paved the road for me

　　They already approved those T-shirts of girls can do anything long ago

　　Mary Curie won not one but two Nobel Prizes, physics and chemistry

　　居里夫人獲得了兩次諾貝爾獎 分別是在物理和化學領域

　　but only three women have one physics Nobel Prize in all of history

　　但歷史上只有三位女性獲得過諾貝爾物理學獎

　　Of 211 physics Nobel Prize winners only three were woman

　　211位諾貝爾物理學獎得主中只有3位是女性

　　The reason we celebrate this day is to make sure

　　今天我們之所以要慶祝這個節(jié)日

　　that it becomes not a story about exceptional woman but a norm

　　是希望這些優(yōu)秀女性不止活在傳奇故事中 而存在于現(xiàn)實

　　that girls belong and succeed in science and technology

　　女孩應該被鼓勵在科學技術方面有所成就

　　I was born in Silicon Valley and have grown up with a love for science and innovation

　　我出生在硅谷 從小就熱愛科學和創(chuàng)新

　　STEM education is not an exception but normal

　　科學技術工程數(shù)學教育并不稀奇 而是非常普遍的

　　I build robots and write code to program them

　　我制造過機器人 還能編寫代碼對它們進行編程

　　As I think about my future I know I will not just be competing with other girls and boys

　　當我思考我的未來時 我知道我將不僅僅與其他女孩和男孩競爭

　　but also artificial intelligence

　　還要和人工智能競爭

　　It is easy to code a set of commands that are triggered in particulars scenarios

　　編寫讓機器人在特定場景中做出特定反應的程序是很容易的

　　That's normal programming and automation

　　只要用到基礎的編程和自動化就可以實現(xiàn)

　　Artificial intelligence and machine learning are different

　　但人工智能和機器學習大有不同

　　Humans are dynamic

　　人類是靈活多變的

　　We can behave in infinitely more ways to any given situation

　　對于任何給定的情況 我們可能會出現(xiàn)無數(shù)種反應

　　based on knowledge, past history, instinct and intuition

　　這些反應是基于我們自身的知識結構 經驗教訓和本能的

　　Computers can now behave almost like humans

　　現(xiàn)在的計算機幾乎能和人類一樣了

　　If you give them a set of rules, historical data

　　如果你給他們設定一套規(guī)則 導入歷史數(shù)據(jù)

　　and the method to choose the right decision

　　以及選擇正確決策的方法

　　Computers can make a very good and sometimes even better choices than us

　　計算機就可以做出很好的選擇 有時甚至可以比人類更好

　　I do worry about girls in science and technology

　　我確實十分擔心女孩在科學技術領域所面臨的困境

　　but even more about humans and artificial intelligence

　　但我更擔心未來人類和人工智能之間的問題

　　I think a lot about the difference between my intelligence and artificial intelligence

　　我經常思考我和人工智能的區(qū)別是什么

　　I have feelings, machines don't

　　我有感情 但機器沒有

　　If someone punches me, I get mad

　　如果有人打我 我會感到很生氣

　　If someone punches a machine, it can also get mad

　　如果有人打機器 他也會生氣

　　because it knows the rules of behavior

　　因為它已經被設定好了行為程序

　　If you get punched you're supposed to get mad

　　It can behave angry but it does not feel anger

　　機器可以表現(xiàn)出憤怒 但實際上它并不能感受到憤怒這個情緒

　　When preparing my speech

　　當我在準備這次演講的時候

　　I've researched and read about many scientists and how they made their discoveries

　　我研究閱讀了許多科學家的故事 了解到他們是如何得到自己的新發(fā)現(xiàn)

　　They found their answers not just by analyzing data

　　他們不僅僅是通過分析數(shù)據(jù)找到了答案

　　They sometimes had a gut feeling, faith or intuition

　　有時候也是靠他們的第六感 信仰或是直覺得來的

　　I was going to give us a speech about our bleak and scary future

　　我原本想說說關于人類的可怕未來

　　with AI taking our jobs and beating us at everything

　　人工智能會搶走我們的工作 在任何事情上都能打敗了我們

　　but then I was so happy that I have feelings, empathy and imagination

　　當后來我又感到喜悅 因為我知道自己有感情 有同情心和想象力

　　which machines don't have

　　而這些都是機器沒有的

　　I look around this room and I see girls and boys who care about me

　　我環(huán)顧這個房間 看到了很多關心我的人

　　All of us in this room have empathy

　　We care about each other and children all over the world

　　AI may think it's illogical to think we can change the world

　　but courage, love and empathy are powerful

　　但是我們所擁有的勇氣 愛和同情心具有巨大的能量

　　As long as we had speed, data and AI cannot replace us, it can only help us

　　只要我們掌握速度和數(shù)據(jù) 人工智能就只能幫助我們 而無法取代我們

　　Have you seen the videos of the Boston Dynamics robot dogs?

　　你有看過波士頓動力機器狗的視頻嗎?

　　They react just like real dogs

　　他們的反應就像真的狗一樣

　　but when the man kicks one of the dogs to show how good the dogs reflexes are

　　但當視頻中的人踢了其中一只狗 來展示它的反應有多好的時候

　　It makes me upset

　　Just because the dog does not have feelings

　　There's no reason to mistreat it

　　In a world where my colleagues make the machines

　　I think we should be kind to them too

　　If we learn to mistreat AI, which is so much like us

　　Our habits can easily trickle to training humans that way too

　　We need to be mindful of our values in the age of AI

　　God told us to treat other creations kindly

　　上帝告訴我們要善待其他造物

　　AI is our creation and now we have that godly responsibility to put good purpose in them

　　My feelings may seem ridiculous to you

　　你可能會覺得我的感受很可笑

　　but in my generation this is natural

　　但在我們這一代人看來 這是很自然的

　　When AI can drive cars, answer calls, manage office work

　　當人工智能可以開車 接電話 管理辦公室工作

　　and so many things that take our time

　　和做其他很多會花費我們時間的工作

　　I'm quite sure we will come up with bigger and better questions to ponder

　　我相信我們將會有更深奧的問題需要去思考

　　with great help from my friend AI

　　We must have strong STEM education

　　我們必須加強我們的科學技術工程數(shù)學教育

　　to know how to live in a world with AI

　　So we can coexist

　　As I say all this I'm slightly ashamed

　　當我說這些的時候 我感到有點羞愧

　　I live in a different world on the same earth

　　在同一個地球上 我生活在和一些人完全不同的世界里

　　There are girls struggling to prove that they deserve to go to school

　　有些地方的女孩還在努力證明自己應該得到教育

　　They are still trying to prove that they are equal in their ability

　　有些女孩仍在努力證明她們的能力和男生是平等的

　　With great privilege comes great responsibility

　　特權越大 責任就越大

　　We must take action not deliberation

　　我們必須采取行動 而不只是深思熟慮

　　We must invest in women and girls in science to give more role models to girls

　　我們必須在科學領域為婦女和女童投資 為女孩們樹立更多的榜樣

　　I want to see more than 3 out of 211 physics Nobles in the hands of women

　　我想看到211位諾貝爾物理學獎得主中能出現(xiàn)更多女性

　　I want to see at least 50% as science and technology companies to be led by a woman

　　我想看到至少一半的科技公司是由女性來領導的

　　You can bring change bottom-up

　　你可以自下而上地帶來改變

　　We can also bring change of top-down

　　我們也可以帶來自上而下的改變

　　This is the top of the world, it is United Nations

　　這里是世界之巔 這里是聯(lián)合國

　　You pave the roads for justice and equality

　　你們?yōu)檎x和和平鋪平了道路

　　Now let's not leave those roads empty

　　and support every single girl and woman who takes the challenge so walk that road

　　Invest in girls and women in science
