Mr. Smith worked in an office.史密斯先生在辦公室工作。
He had neither a wife nor children.他既沒有妻子也沒有孩子。
He lived alone in an old house.他獨自住在一所舊房子。
He liked to do nothing but drink.他喜歡什么也不做但是喝。
He spent most of his money on drink.他花了他的大部分錢花在喝。
Sometimes he was hungry.有時他餓了。
because he had no money to buy food.因為他沒有錢買食物。
He had to borrow some money from his colleagues.他不得不借一些錢從他的同事。
One evening, he met a friend of his in the street.一天晚上,他遇到了他的一個朋友在街上。
The man asked Mr. Smith to have dinner with him.這個人問史密斯先生和他一起吃晚飯。
He was very happy and drank a lot in the restaurant.他非常高興,在餐廳喝了很多。
When they left at midnight,當他們離開在午夜,
he could hardly stand .他幾乎無法站立。
The friend had to stop a taxi朋友必須停止一輛出租車
and ask the driver to take Mr. Sruith home.和問司機要Sruith先生家。
Soon they arrived at the door of his house.不久他們來到了他家的門。
With the help of the driver he got out of the taxi.司機的幫助下他下了出租車。
"Thank you, sir," said Mr. Smith,“謝謝你,先生,”史密斯先生說,
"Now I can open the door myself. "“現(xiàn)在我可以自己開門。“
The taxi driver left,出租車司機離開,
but Mr. Smith couldn't put his key into the keyhole.但史密斯先生不能把鑰匙插進鎖眼。
He was trying to do it when a policeman came.他試圖這樣做時,一個警察來。
"Can l help you? " asked the policeman.“我能幫助你嗎?”警察問道。
"Thank you, sir, " said Mr. Smith.“謝謝你,先生,”史密斯先生說。
"The house is circling.“這房子是環(huán)繞。
If you can stop it moving,如果你能停止它移動,
I can open the door myself . "我可以把門打開自己。“
