◎ room可以用作可數(shù)名詞和不可數(shù)名詞。
① room作“房間，室，寓所”解時，為可數(shù)名詞。
It is a large room. 那是一個大房間。
The house has seven rooms. 這幢房子有七個房間。
There is a double room upstairs. 樓上有一個雙人房間。
提示
room可以構成多個復合詞，如：classroom（教室），sitting-room（起居室），bathroom（洗澡間），dining-room（飯廳）等。
② room作“空間，余地，空位”解時，表示抽象意義，為不可數(shù)名詞，可用much，a lot of修飾。
There's no room to move. 沒有活動空間。
Is there room for me in the car？汽車里有我的座位嗎？
The furniture takes up too much room. 家具占的地方太大。
Can you make room for another person？你能為另一人留下地方嗎？

There's plenty of room. 有很多空地方。
There are plenty of rooms. 有很多房間。
③ 可表示具體意義和抽象意義的名詞還有：hospital，church，school，market，table，prison等。
Church begins at two in the afternoon. 下午兩點開始做禮拜。
We passed by the church in the afternoon. 我們下午路過教堂。
She has gone to market. 她去買東西了。（=She has gone shopping.）
I used to drive past the market. 我以前常開車經(jīng)過那個市場。
There will be no school tomorrow. 明天不上課。
She left school in her teens. 她十幾歲就輟學了。
He went to the school to see the principle. 他去那所學校見校長。
