① cut off意為“切斷，中止，關(guān)掉”，指因某種主觀或客觀原因，停止或中斷某物的供應(yīng)、聯(lián)系或通信聯(lián)絡(luò)。cut off可用于主動語態(tài)或被動語態(tài)。

They've cut off the water supplies of the city. 他們已切斷了這個城市的供水。

Their talk was cut off by a knock at the door. 他們的談話被敲門聲中斷了。

He has cut the motor off. 他已經(jīng)關(guān)掉了發(fā)動機(jī)。

② cut off還可以表示“切開，剪掉，使死去”。

She cut off a mooncake and gave them to the children. 她切了一塊月餅，分給孩子們。

He was suddenly cut off by heart attack. 他因心臟病發(fā)作而突然死去。

③ cut down意為“使……降價，減價”，常指通過討價還價等方式使賣主降價。cut是及物動詞，后可跟某人或價格，cut down by… 表示降價多少，cut down to表示降價到多少。

In the end we cut him down. 最后我們使他降了價。

He asked too much for the chairs，but I managed to cut the price down by 3 dollars. 這些椅子他要價太貴，但是我終于讓價格下降了3美元。

They were gradually cut down to 20 dollars. 他們的要價被逐漸降到20美元。

④ cut out指完全地“停止，放棄”。

He has cut out gambling.（=He no longer gambles. He has stopped gambling.）他不再賭博了。（完全放棄了）

He has cut down（on）gambling.（=He now gambles less often than before.）他現(xiàn)在賭博比以前少了。

⑤ cut in指“插嘴”。

He always cuts in when other people are talking. 別人講話時他總愛插嘴。
