385　increase和add

① increase作動(dòng)詞用時(shí)，可以是及物動(dòng)詞或不及物動(dòng)詞，意為“增長(zhǎng)，增加”，讀音為［?n?kri?s］。

The population is increasing rapidly. 人口在迅速增加。

The driver increased the speed of the car. 司機(jī)加快了車速。

The people there have greatly increased their income. 那里的人們大大地提高了收入。

② increase作名詞用時(shí)，讀音為［??nkri?s］，為不可數(shù)名詞，但可以說(shuō)a rapid increase，a steady increase。

There is a rapid increase in steel production. 鋼產(chǎn)量在迅速增長(zhǎng)。

The increase of income will make people live better. 收入的增加會(huì)使人們生活得更好。
