387　insist on，stick to，keep on，persist in和persevere

① insist on sth./doing sth.意為“堅持要干某事”。

He insisted on writing the book. 他堅持要寫這本書。

He insisted on his own opinions. 他堅持自己的意見。

② keep up doing sth.意為“把……繼續(xù)下去，不松懈”，也可以說keep sth. up。

Since you have been doing the research work for five years，you should keep it up. 既然你從事這項(xiàng)研究工作已有5年了，你就應(yīng)該把它繼續(xù)進(jìn)行下去。

③ stick to的意思同insist on和persist in差不多，較口語化，是對“原則，決定，愿望，意見，諾言，理想，理論”等的堅持，to為介詞，后接名詞或動名詞，不接不定式。

He sticks to the principle through sick and thin. 他在任何情況下都堅持原則。

We stick to what is right. 我們堅持正確的東西。

④ keep on表示continue to do，指克服困難、頑強(qiáng)奮斗，也指一般的“老是”做某事。keep on后常接動名詞作賓語，也可單獨(dú)使用。

Keep on practising and you will speak English fluently. 堅持多練，你英語就能說得流利。

Don't keep on asking silly questions. 不要老是問愚蠢的問題。

The rain kept on several days. 雨一連下了好幾天。

⑤ persist表示不顧困難或障礙，堅持某種活動；有時含貶義，表示固執(zhí)，不聽勸告，結(jié)構(gòu)為：persist in sth./doing sth.。

He persisted in his foolish ideas. 他堅持其愚蠢的想法。

She persists in wearing the old-fashioned hat. 她堅持要戴那頂舊式的帽子。

If you persist in breaking the law，you will go to prison. 如果你堅持違法犯罪活動，你就得蹲班房。

⑥ persevere表示“堅持不懈，不屈不撓，堅忍不拔”，指不顧困難，始終如一地堅持，常含褒義，結(jié)構(gòu)為：persevere in/at/with sth.，persevere with sb.。

He persevered in/at/with his studies amidst all these difficulties. 身處所有這些困難之中，他仍然堅持不懈地學(xué)習(xí)。

Although she was hopeless at chemistry，the teacher persevered with her. 雖然她的化學(xué)怎么教也不會，但老師仍然堅持教她。
