① prevail upon是“說服，勸說”的意思。

We all prevailed upon him to rest home but he refused to stay idle. 我們勸他在家休息，但他不肯閑著。

He was prevailed upon to attend the meeting，despite his reluctance. 他被說服去參加會議，盡管很勉強(qiáng)。

② prevail over是“壓倒，戰(zhàn)勝”（be victorious over）的意思。

After thinking over，she at length succeeded in letting reason prevail over her prejudices. 仔細(xì)考慮后，她終于讓理智戰(zhàn)勝了偏見。
