① recognize是及物動詞。
(1)表示“辨認(rèn),認(rèn)出(曾見過的人或物)”,是建立在原來認(rèn)識的基礎(chǔ)上的。
I recognized him without difficulty. 我毫不費(fèi)力地認(rèn)出了他。
She has changed so much that I can hardly recognize her. 她變化那么大,我?guī)缀跽J(rèn)不出來了。
(2)表示“認(rèn)可,承認(rèn)(government,country,theory),認(rèn)識到”,結(jié)構(gòu)為:

They don't recognize the new government. 他們不承認(rèn)新政府。
I recognize her to be cleverer than I am. 我承認(rèn)她比我聰明。

recognize表示“認(rèn)出(熟悉的人或物),認(rèn)識到(某種價值、合法性、真實性)”,為非延續(xù)性動詞;而know則表示“認(rèn)識”,為延續(xù)性動詞。比較:
我認(rèn)識他多年了。
I have recognized him for many years.
I have known him for many years.
② know…from表示“認(rèn)出,區(qū)分,辨認(rèn)”。
They are twins and it's almost impossible to know one from the other. 他們是雙胞胎,要分清他們倆幾乎是不可能的。
