"Mamma," said Susie Dean, one summer's morning, "may I go to the woods, and pick berries?"
“媽媽，”一個(gè)夏日的早晨，蘇茜.迪恩說，“我可不可以到樹林里去采漿果？”
"Yes," replied Mrs. Dean, "but you must take Rover with you."
“可以，”迪恩太太回答，“但是你必須帶著羅孚一起去。”
Susie brought her little basket, and her mother put up a nice lunch for her.
蘇茜帶上她的小籃子，媽媽為她準(zhǔn)備了美味的午餐。
She tied down the cover, and fastened a tin cup to it.
她把蓋子綁緊，再在上面系上一個(gè)杯子。
The little girl called Rover—a great New found land dog—and gave him a tin pail to carry.
小女孩呼喚羅孚——一條很棒的紐芬蘭犬——再給它一個(gè)錫桶叼著。
"If I bring it home full, mamma," she said, "won't you make some berry cakes for tea?"
“要是我裝滿這個(gè)桶帶回家來，媽媽，”她說，“你會(huì)不會(huì)做一些漿果蛋糕在喝茶的時(shí)候吃呢？”
Away she tripped, singing as she went down the lane and across the pasture.
她輕快地走了出去，唱著歌兒，順著小路，穿過了牧場。
When she got to the woods, she put her dinner basket down beside a tree, and began to pick berries.
到了樹林里，她把裝著午餐的籃子放在一棵樹下，開始采起漿果來。
Rover ran about, chasing a squirrel or a rabbit now and then, but never straying far from Susie.
羅孚跑來跑去，不時(shí)追趕松鼠或野兔，但絕對不會(huì)離開蘇茜太遠(yuǎn)。
The tin pail was not a very small one.
錫桶并不小。
By the time it was two thirds full, Susie began to feel hungry, and thought she would eat her lunch.
到漿果裝滿了桶的三分之二的時(shí)候，蘇絲開始覺得餓了，想起來該吃午飯了。
Rover came and took his place at her side as soon as she began to eat.
蘇茜開始吃飯時(shí)，羅孚馬上跑過來，在她身邊找個(gè)位置蹲好。
Did she not give him some of the lunch?
不給它分一點(diǎn)兒嗎？
No, she was in a selfish mood, and did no such thing.
不，蘇絲有些自私的情緒，沒有給羅孚食物。
"There, Rover, run away! there's a good dog," she said;
“羅孚，那邊，快走開！乖。”她說。
but Rover staid near her, watching her steadily with his clear brown eyes.
可是羅孚在她身邊一動(dòng)也不動(dòng)，清澈的褐色眼睛默默地注視著她。
The meat he wanted so much, was soon eaten up; and all he got of the nice dinner, was a small crust of gingerbread that Susie threw away.
它多想要那塊肉啊，可是很快就被吃掉了；這頓美味的午餐它唯一得到的，就是蘇茜扔掉的一小塊姜餅皮。
After dinner, Susie played a while by the brook.
吃完以后，蘇茜在小河邊玩了一會(huì)兒。
She threw sticks into the water, and Rover swam in and brought them back.
她把棍子扔到水里，羅孚游出去把它叼回來。
Then she began to pick berries again.
之后她又開始采漿果了。
