there's been in your opinion a bit of an attack on a liberal education.Is that true? 你覺得有人攻擊文科教育 是這樣的嗎

President Obama himself said something recently.What is that he said? 奧巴馬總統(tǒng)本人最近說了一些話 他說了什么

He said,well you know,kids nowdays should stop majoring in subjects like art history. 他說 如今的孩子們 應(yīng)該停止學習藝術(shù)史等課程

They could get much better jobs if they were to go into skilled trades. 如果他們學習技術(shù)性勞動會找到更好的工作

There are governors in Florida,a lot of Republican governors,who are saying we're not going to fund any of these humanity majors. 佛羅里達州有些官員 很多共和黨的官員說我們不會給人文專業(yè)資助

Who knows what they lead to.We want to fund stuff that gets you a job. 誰知道它們會導致怎么樣 我們想資助能讓你找到工作的專業(yè)

There's this idea that the broad general education,that really is America's contribution. 大家有這么個想法 覺得廣識教育 這真的是美國獨特的貢獻

This is what American colleges do better than anybody else in the world.We have the best colleges in the world. 美國大學在這一點上比世界上其它的大學都更好 我們擁有世界上最棒的大學

The idea is we should abandon all of that and start becoming chinese.And I think that's a mistake. 他們的觀點是 我們該放棄那一切 開始模仿中國的做法 我覺得那是個錯誤

If you want to study science and be an engineer,great. 如果你想學科學 成為工程師 那很棒

But the great thing about the Amercian education system is it really encouraged broad general training, 但是美國教育系統(tǒng)的優(yōu)秀之處 在于它十分鼓勵廣識教育

history,english,science and then you can go and specialize and do,you know go out into the workplace. 歷史 英語 科學 然后你可以進行專業(yè)發(fā)展 去工作場所

I think you and I both had a liberal arts education.what did you major in?I majored in history. 我覺得我們都有過文科教育 你的專業(yè)是什么 歷史

As far as I understand,the legend has it,you majored at the Harvard and hung out and partied and wrote jokes, 據(jù)我所知 據(jù)傳言 你主修的是哈佛諷刺文社 你經(jīng)常出去玩 參加派對 寫笑話
