今天我們說(shuō)iPhone 7。你會(huì)學(xué)到超實(shí)用的英語(yǔ)談?wù)撌謾C(jī)。我們還要聊聊為什么中國(guó)人換手機(jī)比美國(guó)人頻繁?在美國(guó)買(mǎi)iPhone、簽手機(jī)套餐有什么不同?美國(guó)沒(méi)有水貨機(jī)?

1.Color：顏色

Apple came out with two new colors, two different types of black: 蘋(píng)果這次出了兩種新顏色，兩種不同的黑：

Jet black (glossy): 黑色 (亮黑、漆黑)

Black (matte): 黑色(啞光)

加上以前的三個(gè)顏色：

rose gold: 玫瑰金

gold: 金

sliver：銀

一共是5個(gè)顏色，傳說(shuō)中的海軍藍(lán)(navy blue)并沒(méi)有出現(xiàn)。

Black is such a sophisticated color: 黑色是個(gè)很高級(jí)、有質(zhì)感的顏色

It's very sleek: 簡(jiǎn)單、有品位又有型

I might go for the silver: 我大概還是會(huì)選銀色

On Apple's official website, they use the word "finish" instead of color: 蘋(píng)果官網(wǎng)用的是“finish"這個(gè)詞，而不是"color"

They mean the same: 其實(shí)意思都一樣

2.Airpods：無(wú)線耳機(jī)

Airpods are wireless headphones：Airpods就是無(wú)線耳機(jī)

They are powered by Bluetooth：是用藍(lán)牙驅(qū)動(dòng)的

Doesn't it eat up your battery? 這樣不是很耗電?

On the one hand, I am a fan of wireless headphones: 從一方面來(lái)說(shuō)，我還挺喜歡無(wú)線耳機(jī)的

Because all the headphones I've ever had with wires I always broke them：因?yàn)橛芯€耳機(jī)總被我弄壞

For me , the problem is the wire gets all messy and tangled: 我的問(wèn)題是，有線耳機(jī)的電線總會(huì)很亂、都繞成一團(tuán)

Once you put the wire in a bag, the wire has a life of its own: 一旦你把有線耳機(jī)放進(jìn)包里，它就不受你控制了

It's all in knots / knotted up: 線都打結(jié)了

I encounter this problem on a daily basis: 我每天都碰到這個(gè)問(wèn)題

3.Dual-lens: 雙鏡頭

Dual 是“雙”的意思，經(jīng)常用在科技領(lǐng)域，例如雙核：dual core。這個(gè)詞給人感覺(jué)很geeky(技術(shù))。

而且這個(gè)詞發(fā)音也有點(diǎn)兒難呢。日常生活中，更口語(yǔ)的說(shuō)法是double:

double camera

double lens

兩個(gè)鏡頭、分工不同：

telephoto lens: 長(zhǎng)焦鏡頭

wide angle: 廣角鏡頭

It allows you to zoom 10 times：雙攝像頭可以讓你十倍變焦

It gives you really high resolution pictures：可以拍高清照片

HD picutres = high definitionpictures

美國(guó)人不賣(mài)腎，賣(mài)胳膊和腿

Do you know the meme of selling one of your kidneys to buy an iPhone: 你知道賣(mài)腎買(mǎi)iPhone這個(gè)梗嗎?

我們調(diào)侃說(shuō)“賣(mài)腎”買(mǎi)iPhone, 英語(yǔ)里也有個(gè)異曲同工的說(shuō)法：

To cost an arm and a leg:

相當(dāng)于一條胳膊、一條腿的價(jià)值，指特別貴的東西

例如：

The iPhone 7 Plus costs an arm and a leg.

We don't say selling your kidney: 我們沒(méi)有賣(mài)腎的說(shuō)法

But we do make jokes on selling organs for expensive things：但我們也會(huì)開(kāi)玩笑說(shuō)要賣(mài)器官才能買(mǎi)很貴的東西

美國(guó)人會(huì)賣(mài)腎買(mǎi)iPhone7嗎?

美國(guó)手機(jī)文化和中國(guó)有什么不一樣?

1.換手機(jī)的頻率

I feel like Chinese seem to buy or upgrade phones a little bit more often：我感覺(jué)中國(guó)人換手機(jī)的頻率好像更高一點(diǎn)

A lot of people like to have the latest phones to be fashionable: 有人覺(jué)得用新手機(jī)，很時(shí)髦

It's like a status symbol: 更像是一種地位象征

Also, Americans can't change phone often because they're locked in contracts: 還有，美國(guó)人不能老換手機(jī)，因?yàn)樗麄兇蠖鄶?shù)人都被合約機(jī)綁住了

2.合約機(jī) VS 非合約機(jī)

1). Contract Phone

在美國(guó)， contract phone (合約機(jī))更常見(jiàn)。大多數(shù)人都會(huì)選擇合約機(jī)。下圖是這詞iPhone 7 Plus的合約機(jī)價(jià)格，對(duì)比非合約機(jī)價(jià)格：

You get your phone with a contract：合約機(jī)

They are locked in these 1-2 year long contracts：美國(guó)人常常被1-2年的合同綁住

The longer the contract the cheaper the phone, or you get it for free: 合同越長(zhǎng)，手機(jī)越便宜，或者免費(fèi)

But it's super inflexible: 但是超級(jí)不靈活

Even if you are on a contract, you might be able to get an upgrade: 有些合約你也可以升級(jí)，換手機(jī)

Locked phone: 鎖機(jī)

If you have a contract phone with a carrier, it might be a locked phone: 和運(yùn)營(yíng)商簽的合約機(jī)可能是鎖住的

For example, Verizon, doesn't give you a SIM card: 比如, Verizon(美國(guó)一個(gè)運(yùn)營(yíng)商), 根本不給你sim卡

Their phones are locked: 他們都是鎖機(jī)

If you travel and want to get a local SIM card, it won't work: 如果你出國(guó)，想當(dāng)?shù)刭I(mǎi)SIM卡，就不行

Americans pay quite a lot for their cell phone bills, over $100 or even $200 a month: 所以美國(guó)人的手機(jī)賬單很貴，常常都要100多美金，甚至200美金一個(gè)月

Pay in full, unlocked phone: 付全價(jià)，解鎖機(jī)

You need to pay full price for the phone: 全額付款, 買(mǎi)下手機(jī)

You need to pay full retail price for the phone：全額零售價(jià)

MSRP: manufacture suggested retail price 生產(chǎn)商建議零售價(jià)

You see this word MSRP a lot in the US, buying a car, buying electronics: 在美國(guó)，常看到MSRP這個(gè)詞，特別是買(mǎi)車(chē)、買(mǎi)電器、電子產(chǎn)品

Many stores will list the MSRP and list their own price that's cheaper: 很多店會(huì)標(biāo)出MSRP, 然后再寫(xiě)一個(gè)自己店里的優(yōu)惠價(jià)

水貨機(jī)

Spencer說(shuō)美國(guó)買(mǎi)不到什么水貨機(jī)，有這幾個(gè)說(shuō)法：

smuggled phone

back channel phone

smuggled goods

Smuggle: 走私

Back channel: 非官方渠道

短期去美國(guó)旅游，可以買(mǎi)Go Phone

It's called a Go Phone, a short term plan: 是個(gè)短期合約, 叫Go Phone

You can get it in Walmart and lots of other places: 沃爾瑪啦，其它很多地方都買(mǎi)得到

It's about $50, 60 a month: 大概50;60刀一個(gè)月

Everything is unlimited,unlimited minutes, unlimited data: 流量、電話都是無(wú)限的

漫游：roaming

Data roaming: 數(shù)據(jù)漫游

China Mobile has data roaming where it's capped at RMB30 a day, you can use unlimited data in the US: 中國(guó)移動(dòng)現(xiàn)在有流量漫游，30人民幣一天封頂，可以無(wú)限量用數(shù)據(jù)

越獄手機(jī): jail-broken phone

We just call it jail break: 越獄，就是jail break

Or a jail-broken phone: 或者可以說(shuō)jail-broken的手機(jī)

Respect official channels: 我還是尊重正規(guī)體系

One of the biggest reasons I stick with apple products and the iPhone is the podcasts:我一直用蘋(píng)果產(chǎn)品、iPhone一大主要原因，就是聽(tīng)播客

There is a handful of podcasts that I listen to religiously every day and they are such a big part of my life: 有幾個(gè)播客，我是每天不拉地聽(tīng)，是生活里特別重要的一部分

If I don't use Apple, it'll be quite inconvenient to listen to these American podcasts on iTunes: 不用蘋(píng)果，要聽(tīng)這種美國(guó)播客會(huì)挺不方便的
