Remember, love, who gave thee this,
親愛的，記住，這本書是誰給你的。
When other days shall come,
在將來的日子里，
When she who had thine earliest kiss,
當(dāng)給你最早親吻的人，
Sleeps in her narrow home.
早已不在人世，
Remember! 't was a mother gave, the gift to one she'd die to save!
不要忘記，這是母親的禮物，為了保護(hù)你不畏犧牲的母親的禮物。
That mother sought a pledge of love,
母親給孩子的這份禮物，
The holiest for her son,
是最神圣的禮物，是愛的約定。
And from the gifts of God above,
這禮物是她從神的禮物中選擇的，
She chose a goodly one;
最美好的禮物。
She chose for her beloved boy,
因?yàn)樗秊樗膼圩舆x擇的是，
The source of light, and life, and joy.
光明、生命和喜悅的源泉。
She bade him keep the gift, that, when the parting hour should come,
她說要保存好這份禮物，當(dāng)分手的時(shí)候到來時(shí)，
They might have hope to meet again,
他們還有希望，
In an eternal home.
在永恒的天上的家相聚。
She said his faith in this would be,
她說他的信念，
Sweet incense to her memory.
就是對她最好的紀(jì)念。
And should the scoffer, in his pride,
如果有傲慢的嘲笑者，
Laugh that fond faith to scorn,
奚落嘲笑這種信念，
And bid him cast the pledge aside,
讓他把這幼時(shí)就堅(jiān)守的信念，
That he from youth had borne,
拋到一邊，
She bade him pause, and ask his breast,
她讓她停留片刻，問問自己的心，
If SHE or HE had loved him best.
到底誰更愛他。
A parent's blessing on her son,
母親給兒子的祝福，
Goes with this holy thing;
永遠(yuǎn)和這神圣的禮物在一起。
The love that would retain the one,
如果愛自己的母親，
Must to the other cling.
也絕不會忘記另一個(gè)。
Remember! 't is no idle toy:
記住，孩子！這不是無聊的玩具，
A mother's gift! remember, boy.
這是母親的禮物！
