In the days when an ice cream sundae cost muchless, a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shopand sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water infront of him.

故事發(fā)生在當(dāng)一份圣代冰激凌比今天便宜得多的日子里，一個10歲的小男孩走進(jìn)了一家咖啡館并找了個桌坐下了。服務(wù)員為他端上了一杯水。

"How much is an ice cream sundae?"

"一份圣代冰激凌多少錢?"小男孩問。

"Fifty cents," replied the waitress.

"50美分。"服務(wù)員回答道。

The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied a number of coins in it. "How muchis a dish of plain ice cream?" he required.

小男孩把手從兜里拿了出來，認(rèn)證地?cái)?shù)著手里的許多枚硬幣。"那一份普通冰激凌多少錢?"小男孩詢問道。

Some people were now waiting for a table and the waitress was a bit impatient."Thirty-fivecents," she said rudely. The little boy again counted the coins. "I'll have the plain ice cream,"he said.

服務(wù)員變得有些不耐煩了。"35美分"她答道。小男孩再次數(shù)了數(shù)手中的硬幣。"給我來份普通冰激凌吧。" 小男孩說。

The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finishedthe ice cream, paid the bill and departed.

服務(wù)員端上了冰激凌，將賬單放在桌子上后就走開了。小男孩吃完了冰激凌，把錢付給了收銀員后，離開了。

When the waitress came back, she began wiping down the table and then swallowed hard atwhat she saw.

當(dāng)服務(wù)員回來開始擦那個桌子的時候，為她眼前所看到的感到難以置信。

There, placed nearly beside the empty dish, were two five-cent coins and five one-cent coins---her tip.

就在那盤子旁邊，整齊的擺放著15美分，那是小男孩留給她的小費(fèi)!
