How happy is he born and taught,

幸福，后天的良好教育，

That serveth not another’s will;

侍從，原非他人本意，

Whose armor is his honest thought,

坦誠(chéng)真摯，方堅(jiān)韌強(qiáng)勢(shì)，

And simple truth his utmost skill!

常人難及，行知合一的技能！

Whose passions not his masters are,

冷靜睿智，并非憑借激情，

Whose soul is still prepared for death,

義無(wú)反顧，為死亡做好準(zhǔn)備，

Untied unto the worldly care

遠(yuǎn)離世俗，蠅營(yíng)狗茍之利，

Of public fame, or private breath;

聲名地位，一笑過(guò)眼煙云。

Who envies none that chance doth raise,

無(wú)需嫉妒，那些人脫穎而出，

Or vice; who never understood

抑或指責(zé)，無(wú)法洞悉的墮落，

How deepest wounds are given by praise;

盛譽(yù)，使他深受傷害，以及

Nor rules of state, but rules of good:

社會(huì)秩序，與良知背馳而行。

Who hath his life from rumors freed,

生活當(dāng)中，遠(yuǎn)離詆毀小人，

Whose conscience is his strong retreat;

道德良知，首推要?jiǎng)t公義，

Whose state can neither flatterers feed,

對(duì)阿諛諂媚者，慣以冷眼應(yīng)對(duì)，

Nor ruin make oppressors great;

沒(méi)有任何毀滅，能讓強(qiáng)權(quán)矗立。

Who God doth late and early pray,

無(wú)論何時(shí)， 上帝為其祝福，

More of his grace than gifts to lend;

恩澤無(wú)邊， 超越世俗范疇，

And entertains the harmless day

翻讀圣經(jīng)， 與友傾心交談，

With a religious book or friend.

從容享受，歲月姝好安寧。

This man is freed from servile bands,

傲世獨(dú)立，遠(yuǎn)離烏合之眾，

Of hope to rise, or fear to fall;

不求發(fā)跡，亦不恐懼墜落，

Lord of himself, though not of lands;

精神豐盈，盡管鮮有財(cái)產(chǎn)，

And having nothing, yet hath all.

月白風(fēng)清，內(nèi)心富足一生。
