He expected that he would receive some message or remonstrance from Young as to his conduct, and he was not mistaken, though it came in an unlooked-for manner.

他預(yù)料，這番行為必然會(huì)招來(lái)?yè)P(yáng)的某種警告的。事情果然不出所料，但是警告的方式，卻是他萬(wàn)萬(wàn)意想不到的。

How this warning came into his room puzzled John Ferrier sorely, for his servants slept in an outhouse, and the doors and windows had all been secured.
