313　population的用法

1　population 意為“人口”，是集體名詞，一般不可加s，作主語時，謂語動詞用單數(shù)。

The population of the town is increasing. 這個城市的人口在增長。

2　population 有時可同a連用，構成“地點名詞+has a population of+數(shù)詞”結構，表示某地有多少人口。

The village has a population of about 800. 這個村子大約有800人。

3　population 可同big或large搭配，表示人口多，同small搭配，表示人口少，但不能同many, a lot of, few, little搭配。

The country has a large population . 這個國家人口眾多。

The city with its big population is in the west of China. 這個人口眾多的城市位于中國西部。

That country has a small population . 那個國家人口稀少。

4　對人口提問要用what或how large， 不能用how many或how much。

What is the population of the city? （正）這個城市的人口是多少 ?

How large is the population of the city? （正）

How many is the population of the city? （誤）

表示“人口中的多少是干什么的”，謂語動詞常用復數(shù)形式。
