440　look和seem

1　look 用作不及物動(dòng)詞，常同at 搭配，表示“看，瞧”。

Look at the stars. 瞧那些星星。

She looked at the children play with toys. 她看著孩子們玩玩具。（play前不可用to, 為look at sb. do sth. 結(jié)構(gòu) ）

What are you looking at ? （正）你在看什么 ?

What are you looking ? （誤）

2　look 用作連系動(dòng)詞，后跟形容詞或名詞作表語，表示“看上去，看起來”，在這層意義上不用于進(jìn)行時(shí)，后面也不用副詞。look 強(qiáng)調(diào)通過視覺來看，而seem 則表示根據(jù)某種判斷而得出的印象或看法，含有較強(qiáng)烈的真實(shí)性。

He looks quite strong. 他看上去很強(qiáng)壯。

He looks a good man. 他看上去是個(gè)好人。

The girl seems to understand quite well. 這女孩似乎理解得十分好。

He seems very sure. 他似乎很有把握。

Be what you seem . 要表里如一。

She looks happy. （正）她看上去很幸福 。

She is looking happy. （誤） （不用進(jìn)行時(shí) ）

She looks happily . （誤） （不用副詞 ）

3　look like 表示“看起來像”，后跟名詞或動(dòng)名詞，不可跟不定式。

She looks like her mother. （正）她看起來像她母親 。

She looks as her mother. （誤） （這層意義上不用as ）

It looks like rain .（正）看來要下雨了 。

It looks like raining . （正）

It looks like to rain . （誤）

4　look 用作名詞，表示“看”，常用作單數(shù)名詞。

Let's have a look at the new car. 讓我們看看這輛新車。

He gave her a strange look . 他用奇怪的眼光看了她一眼。

5　look around 意為“四處看看”。

She looked around , but could see nothing. 她四周張望，但什么也看不見。

6　look into 表示：①朝……內(nèi)看，②調(diào)查。

They are looking into the hole. 他們?cè)诔莻€(gè)洞里看。

We'll look into the matter. 我們將調(diào)查這件事。

7　look out 意為“當(dāng)心，小心（常用作祈使句，相當(dāng)于be careful）”。

Look out ! There comes a bus. 當(dāng)心，過來一輛公交車！

8　look over 意為“檢查，仔細(xì)檢查”。

I have to look over my homework. 我得把作業(yè)檢查一下。

The doctor will look him over . 醫(yī)生將給他檢查一下。

9　look up 表示：①查（字典），②向上看。

She often looks up new words in the dictionary. 她經(jīng)常在詞典里查生詞。

He looked up and saw a bird flying over. 他向上望，看見一只鳥飛過。

提示

“查字／詞典”不可說look up the dictionary，因?yàn)閐ictionary是查尋的地方，不是查尋的對(duì)象，要說成look up the word/a word in the dictionary。
