459　pause和stop

1　pause 指短暫的停止，且含有再進行之意。

He paused to tie his shoes. 他停下來系鞋帶。

He took a pause for a moment, and then continued. 他停頓片刻，然后繼續(xù)講下去。

2　stop 為一般用語，特指停止做某事，如：活動、前進等；stop 表示結束，有短期或突然停止的意味，還表示“使……停下”。stop 后可接不定式或動名詞，但意義往往有差異。

She stopped to read the article. 她停下來讀這篇文章。（停止做別的事，來讀這篇文章 ）

She stopped reading the article when she saw me coming. 她看見我來就停止讀那篇文章了。（不再讀那篇文章了 ）

Let's wait till the rain stops . 我們等到雨停再走。

He stopped smoking. 他不再吸煙了。

She raised her hand to stop the cab. 她舉起手要出租車停下。

Jack was running too fast to stop himself. 杰克跑得太快，收不住腳。
