南極驚現(xiàn)百年前水果蛋糕 保存完好聞起來還能吃

據(jù)英國廣播公司報道，南極遺產(chǎn)信托基金會在南極洲最古老的建筑里發(fā)現(xiàn)了一塊有著百年歷史的水果蛋糕。文物保護人員認為，它是英國探險家羅伯特•斯科特留下的。盡管裝蛋糕的金屬盒子已經(jīng)生銹，但該團隊說，蛋糕本身“狀況良好”，并且聞起來還能吃。

A 100-year-old fruitcake believed to be from the Scott expedition has been found in a nearly "edible" state in the Antarctic.

南極洲上發(fā)現(xiàn)了一塊幾乎“還能食用”的100年以前的水果蛋糕，據(jù)信這是斯科特探險隊留下的。

The cake, wrapped in paper and stored inside a rusted tin, was found in the Antarctic's oldest building, a hut on Cape Adare.

蛋糕被包在紙里，存儲在一個生銹的鐵罐中，在阿代爾角的一間小屋里被人發(fā)現(xiàn)。這間小屋是南極最古老的建筑。

It is believed to have been brought to the Antarctic by British explorer Robert Falcon Scott, during his Terra Nova expedition between 1910 and 1913.

據(jù)信，這是英國探險家羅伯特•福爾肯•斯科特在1910至1913年間在特拉諾瓦探險期間帶到南極的。

The brand of the cake, Huntley& Palmers, was known to be a favorite of Scott, who successfully led his team to the South Pole in 1912 from the base hut.

1912年，斯科特成功帶領(lǐng)其團隊從這間基地小屋出發(fā)前往南極點。這塊蛋糕是亨帕牌兒的，而眾所周知這個牌子是斯科特的最愛。

It was found during a two-year conservation project by the Antarctic Heritage Trust, who said it "looked and smelt (almost) edible".

南極遺產(chǎn)信托基金會在開展為期兩年的保護項目期間發(fā)現(xiàn)了蛋糕，據(jù)其稱蛋糕“看起來和聞上去(幾乎)都可以吃”。

"With just two weeks to go on the conservation of the Cape Adare artefacts, finding such a perfectly preserved fruitcake in amongst the last handful of unidentified and severely corroded tins was quite a surprise," Lizzie Meek, the programme manager for artefacts at the Trust, said.

“在阿代爾角文物保護項目即將結(jié)束的前兩周，能在最后幾個用途不明、嚴重銹蝕的罐頭中找到這樣一個保存完好的水果蛋糕讓人格外驚喜，”該信托基金會文物項目經(jīng)理莉齊•米克表示。

"It's an ideal high-energy food for Antarctic conditions, and is still a favorite item on modern trips to the Ice."

“在南極，水果蛋糕是理想的高能量食物，現(xiàn)在依然是南極之旅中最受歡迎的食品。”

The cake has been returned to the hut, along with other restored artefacts.

這塊蛋糕已經(jīng)連同其他修復好的文物一起被放回到小屋中。

Scott and all four members of his team died on their return journey from the South Pole to the base on the Terra Nova.

斯科特和團隊四名成員全部在從南極點返回特拉諾瓦基地的途中去世。
