A perfect getaway is one of those things that we all dream about, be it an exotic resort or a weekend camping by a lake. And if a forest sounds like the best retreat for you, then Rasmus Lybæk has just the perfect spot. Following his dream to bring people closer to nature, he decided to create Løvtag (Danish for “canopy”), a dreamy destination surrounded by Denmark’s sublime nature near Mariager Fjord on the Als Odde peninsula.
The first Løvtag cabin in a tree is already available for booking

So far, only one of nine houses have been built and the architect behind these minimalist tree cabins is Sigurd Larsen. This isn’t the first minimalist structure that Larsen worked on, as he’s designed structures like lake houses in the past. Fascinated by Larsen’s signature style and experience with small-space design, Lybæk chose him to bring his dream into reality.
One of the coolest and environmentally friendly aspects of this project is that no trees will be harmed or removed for the construction. Instead, the cabins are designed in such a way that a tree could grow right through it. The first cabin is built around a pine tree, while the second and third are planned to be constructed around an oak and a beech tree, respectively.
The pocket-sized structures are built 6-8 meters (26 feet) up the tree and are accessed by a wooden bridge. The house is supported by metal beams and has large windows to the south and west to allow plenty of natural light to get in.
The 31m² (334-square-foot) cabin includes two sleeping spaces, a kitchenette, a living and dining area, access to a rooftop terrace, and a bathroom which opens up to a shower that’s located outdoors. Luckily for those not used to the true “accommodation” of nature, the house has water, electricity, and indoor plumbing.
The treehouse is available for booking now and has enough space for up to four people. The price for a night starts from 2,750 Danish Krone ($415 USD) for two people and includes a light breakfast.
