Donald Trump would probably replace Janet Yellenas Federal Reserve chair if he wins the presidentialelection, the presumptive Republican nominee saidon Thursday.

周四，應(yīng)會成為共和黨總統(tǒng)候選人的唐納德•特朗普(DonaldTrump)表示，如果他贏得總統(tǒng)大選，將很可能把現(xiàn)任美聯(lián)儲(Fed)主席珍妮特•耶倫(Janet Yellen)換掉。

The property developer turned politician toldCNBC that Ms Yellen is “not a Republican” and that itwould be “appropriate” to put someone new in theposition when her four-year term expires in February 2018.

這位從地產(chǎn)開發(fā)商轉(zhuǎn)型而來的政治家對消費(fèi)者新聞與商業(yè)頻道(CNBC)表示，耶倫“不是共和黨人”，當(dāng)2018年2月她的任期屆滿之際，起用其他人擔(dān)任此職位，將是“合適的”。

Nevertheless, Mr Trump also said that he agreed with Ms Yellen’s policy of keeping short-terminterest rates low, saying that rate increases would push up the dollar and damage America’scompetitive position with China, as well as making it harder to service US debt.

“I have nothing against Janet Yellen whatsoever; I think she has been doing her job,” said MrTrump, describing her as “very capable”. However, he added: “She is not a Republican . . . whenher time is up I would most likely replace her because of the fact that I think it would beappropriate.”

Previous presidents have been willing to keep Fed chairmen in post regardless of their politicalleanings. Despite his Republican affiliation, Ben Bernanke clinched a second term in 2010under President Barack Obama. Alan Greenspan was similarly appointed to a third term underBill Clinton in the 1990s.

Mr Trump’s supportive comments about the Fed’s easy monetary policy were a reversal fromhis position last year, when he chastised Ms Yellen for failing to raise rates, saying she wasleaving them low to help Mr Obama’s administration.

“I love the concept of a strong dollar,” Mr Trump said on Thursday. “But when you look at thehavoc that a strong dollar causes . . . I can tell you, I have friends in China: all they do is watchthe dollar. They love to see it go up.”

Higher interest rates would also make it tougher for America to service its debt, Mr Trumpadded. He described himself as the “king of debt”, but said that it had to be handled with care. “You are talking about something that is very, very fragile,” he said.
