特朗普支持給予弗林豁免

President Donald Trump said immunity should be offered to former national security adviser Michael Flynn in exchange for testifying to congressional inquiries into Russian interference in the US election — probes both men dismissed as a “witch hunt”.

唐納德•特朗普(Donald Trump)總統(tǒng)表示，應(yīng)該給予前國家安全顧問邁克爾•弗林(Michael Flynn)豁免，以換取后者在國會對俄羅斯干預(yù)美國大選的調(diào)查中作證——兩人均將這些調(diào)查斥為“政治迫害”。

Mr Trump on Friday backed the man he fired after only 24 days as his top national security aide with an early morning tweet: “Mike Flynn should ask for immunity in that this is a witch hunt (excuse for big election loss), by media & Dems, of historic proportion!”

特朗普周五凌晨發(fā)推文，力挺這位上任僅24天即被解職的前國家安全顧問：“邁克爾•弗林應(yīng)該申請豁免權(quán)，這是媒體和民主黨掀起的一場史無前例的政治迫害(選舉慘敗的借口)!”

Mr Flynn’s lawyer on Thursday said the former general had offered to testify in the House and Senate intelligence committees’ probes of Russian interference in American politics only if he had reasonable assurances that he would not be targeted for prosecution.

弗林的律師周四表示，這位退役將軍已提出愿意在國會參眾兩院情報委員會對俄羅斯干預(yù)美國政治的調(diào)查中作證，前提得到自己不會被起訴的合理保證。

“General Flynn certainly has a story to tell and he very much wants to tell it should circumstances permit,” his lawyer Robert Kelner said in a statement.

“弗林將軍當(dāng)然有故事可講，而且他也非常愿意講——如果情況允許的話，”弗林的律師羅伯特•克爾納(Robert Kelner)在一份聲明中表示。

But Mr Kelner, an elections law specialist at Covington & Burling, added: “No reasonable person, who has the benefit of advice from counsel, would submit to questioning in such a highly politicised, witch-hunt environment without assurances against unfair prosecution.”

但克爾納還表示：“沒有一個得到法律顧問建議的合理的人，會在沒有得到不受到不公平起訴保證的情況下，在這樣一個高度政治化、政治迫害的環(huán)境中接受盤問。”克爾納是科文頓•柏靈(Covington & Burling)律師事務(wù)所一名選舉法專家。

On Friday, NBC News reported that the Senate panel had denied the immunity request.
