Downing Street’s decision to open the investigation of Mr Green, who denies the allegations, comes after the emergence on Tuesday of the most serious claims yet about sexual misconduct in British politics. Bex Bailey, a former youth representative on the Labour party’s National Executive Committee, said she was raped at a party event in 2011 but discouraged from reporting the attack.
