The United States and European allies launched strikes against Syrian targets, President Trump announced on Friday, seeking to punish President Bashar al-Assad for a suspected chemical attack near Damascus that killed more than 40 people.

美國總統(tǒng)特朗普周五宣布，美國和歐洲盟國對敘利亞目標實施了精確打擊，以懲罰敘利亞總統(tǒng)阿薩德在大馬士革附近實施的一起疑似化學(xué)武器襲擊事件，該事件造成了40余人死亡。

Mr. Trump said Britain and France had joined the United States in the strikes, which he said were underway.

英國和法國加入了此次行動。

“These are not the actions of a man. They are crimes of a monster instead,” Mr. Trump, in a televised nighttime address from the White House Diplomatic Room, said of the Syrian attacks last weekend that he blamed on Mr. Assad.

特朗普稱，此次打擊的目的是阻止敘利亞化學(xué)武器的生產(chǎn)、傳播和使用，他稱之為“美國的重要國家安全利益”。

He said the strikes of precision weapons sought to deter the production, spread and use of chemical weapons, which he called “a vital national security interest of the United States.”

此次襲擊事件有可能使美國陷入敘利亞復(fù)雜的多邊戰(zhàn)爭，特朗普上周才表示他不想卷入敘利亞爭端。襲擊事件還增加了美國與俄羅斯和伊朗對抗的可能性，俄羅斯和伊朗均在敘利亞部署了支持阿薩德的軍事力量。
