A man is fighting for life after he was hit by a car while walking his dog in Sydney last night.

The man was crossing the Pacific Highway and Oliver Road in Chatswood with his wife and dog when he was struck just before 8pm.

The 55-year-old sustained head and spinal injuries and was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
