世衛(wèi)考慮星座命名變異毒株

New coronavirus strains could be named after constellations once the Greek alphabet is used up, a World Health Organization boss has suggested.

世界衛(wèi)生組織官員表示，一旦希臘字母用完，考慮用星座來命名新的新冠變異毒株。

The agency started naming new mutations after letters of the Greek alphabet back in May.

世衛(wèi)組織自今年5月開始用希臘字母來命名新冠變異毒株。

So far, 11 variants have been named - including the Delta, Beta and Alpha strains.

截至目前，世衛(wèi)組織已經(jīng)用希臘字母命名了11種新冠變異毒株，包括阿爾法變異病毒、貝塔變異病毒、德爾塔變異病毒。

Maria Van Kerkhove, the WHO's COVID-19 technical lead, said the WHO is looking at new names in case they go through all 24 letters of the Greek alphabet.

世衛(wèi)組織新冠疫情技術(shù)部門負(fù)責(zé)人范科霍夫表示，世衛(wèi)組織正在為新冠變異毒株尋找新的命名方式，以防24個希臘字母不夠使用。

At the moment, constellations are being considered.

范科霍夫表示，目前，該組織正在考慮以星座命名。

The WHO is looking at proposals to make sure no one is upset with the names, she added.

范科霍夫稱，世衛(wèi)組織正在研究提案，確保沒有人對新的命名感到不滿。
