Seat這個詞，我們再熟悉不過了，它的中文意思是“座位”。我們的生活中有各種各樣的座位，比如汽車上的駕駛座、看臺上的觀摩座等等。這些座位在不同的語境里會表示不同的意思。

 

 

1. I am very fortunate to get the ringside seat to the event.

我很幸運能夠近距離觀摩這個活動。

(ringside seat：拳擊比賽中靠近拳擊臺的觀察席位，此處比喻為近距離觀察。)

2. The consumer is in the driving seat due to the huge range of goods on the market.

由于市場上商品大量堆積，現(xiàn)在是消費者在掌控大局。

(driving seat：駕駛座，這里 表示“掌控大局”。)

3. You must rent this video. It keeps you on the edge of your seat right up to the end.

你一定得租這部電影看看，它會讓你從頭到尾都聚精會神。

(keep someone on the edge of the seat：讓某人保持濃厚興趣)

4. Aunt Mary drives us all crazy with her instructions; she's an incurable backseat driver.

瑪麗姑媽指來點去的，簡直要把我們逼瘋了。她瞎亂指揮的毛病真的無可救藥了。

(backseat driver：后排座位上的司機，坐在后面喜歡告訴開車的人如何開車，意思就是指手劃腳，亂提意見。)

5. She does not have to take a back seat to any singer of her time.

同任何一位同時代的歌唱家相比，她都毫不遜色。

(take a back seat：坐在后排座位，喻指甘居人后，允許他人領(lǐng)先。)
