scum 池塘等的浮垢，［引喻］人渣、廢物、沒(méi)用的東西

1. got sent 相當(dāng)于were sent的被動(dòng)式，但got的語(yǔ)意比were為強(qiáng)，也證明get有l(wèi)inking verb的功能。

1. impeachment trial 指當(dāng)時(shí)尚未宣判的克林頓總統(tǒng)被彈劾審判。

1. scum 人渣，廢物，沒(méi)用的東西

1. report 指Vulgarity Index（粗話(huà)索引）統(tǒng)計(jì)自1985年以來(lái)眾議院議員所用的罵人語(yǔ)和粗話(huà)。

2. vivisectors 指解剖活的動(dòng)物者，人道主義者不齒其殘忍成性。

3. ninja 忍者（武士）的羅馬拼音。

4. Sandinistas 指里根總統(tǒng)任內(nèi)在尼加拉瓜境內(nèi)的自由游擊隊(duì)。

5. Trudeau’s comic strip 杜氏的連載漫畫(huà)經(jīng)常諷刺美政府及其政策，頗引起反感。

6. skinhead 白人至上主義者，排斥有色人種。

7. pornographers 語(yǔ)出希臘文，是販賣(mài)色情書(shū)畫(huà)及影集者。

1. look like shit與look like hell相同，表示“臟兮兮”。在look后的 like shit是形容詞短語(yǔ)，作主語(yǔ)補(bǔ)足語(yǔ)。用run over twice（被車(chē)壓過(guò)兩次）來(lái)加強(qiáng)語(yǔ)氣，run是過(guò)去分詞，當(dāng)補(bǔ)語(yǔ)。

2. …they’re what’s 就是“…they are what is”的簡(jiǎn)寫(xiě)，they指的是新聞界。

3. standing between us and victory 站在我們與勝利中間，喻“擋路”、“妨礙我們勝利”。

2. scumbag 人渣

A. We’re2 supposed to be in current-day, small-town Mississippi3， where a young white lawyer agrees to defend a black factory worker after he guns down a couple of scumbags4 who raped and savagely beat his 10-year-old daughter.

故事發(fā)生在現(xiàn)今密西西比州的小鎮(zhèn)上，一黑人廠工槍殺兩個(gè)痛擊又玷污他十歲女兒的人渣后，一年輕的白人律師同意擔(dān)任他的辯護(hù)人。

2. we 指觀眾。

3. Mississippi 美國(guó)南部密西西比州，此地曾發(fā)生多次黑白種族沖突。

4. scumbags 此處指的是兩個(gè)白人壞蛋（人渣）。

1. it 指紐約一個(gè)政客說(shuō)他競(jìng)選對(duì)手是個(gè)putzhead（putz乃猶太土語(yǔ)，作“生殖器”解），引起軒然大波，記者釋putzhead為jerk（乳臭未干者），認(rèn)為scumbag也應(yīng)該釋為jerk。

1. one more slip up slip及slip up皆是小過(guò)失（mistake，error的同義字），此處是名詞：slip up亦當(dāng)動(dòng)詞，如Don’t slip up!（不準(zhǔn)出差錯(cuò)！）。 One more與another同義，是“再一個(gè)……”之意。

3. …h(huán)ung out to dry（俚） 借“洗衣服掛在外頭晾干”，喻“受大家抨擊”之意。
