1. Wuss 懦夫

A. I can see it all now，this is gonna be just like last summer. You fell in love with that girl at the Fotomat，you bought forty dollars worth of fuckin’ film，and you never even talked to her. You don’t even own a camera. You are a wuss：part wimp，and part pussy.

1. enter 指進(jìn)入主角的網(wǎng)站（web site）玩血肉橫飛、殺氣騰騰的電腦游戲。

2. Wuss 此處為不可數(shù)的集體名詞（collective noun）。

3. the lot 此處為the many的同義字。lot另有“批”及“空地”之意，如a lot of goods（一批貨），parking lot（停車場(chǎng)）。

4. Turnaround 掉頭，回轉(zhuǎn)（不及物動(dòng)詞）。此處應(yīng)該分開寫成turn around兩個(gè)字。Turnaround合成一個(gè)字是名詞，為車輛（公交車、地鐵火車、計(jì)程車等）回轉(zhuǎn)處，或車、船、飛機(jī)往返所需要的時(shí)間。另如economic turnaround（經(jīng)濟(jì)的好轉(zhuǎn)），product turnaround （產(chǎn)品的出廠、退回、修理周期），turnaround time指某過程或周期中所需要的時(shí)間。文中Time與Turnaround大寫旨在強(qiáng)調(diào)。

2. going to see… 是going to see to it…的口語簡(jiǎn)化，通常后隨that的名詞從句，意為“設(shè)法辦到……”。

3. your butt 借“屁股”作“閣下”解。

4. court 即球場(chǎng)（尤指籃球場(chǎng)、網(wǎng)球場(chǎng)、排球場(chǎng)、羽毛球場(chǎng)）。

5. opening game 指賽季開始時(shí)該隊(duì)的首場(chǎng)比賽。

6. ＄44-million wuss 指該隊(duì)中鋒（center）布來德利（Shawn Bradley）于 1993年簽為期八年總值四千四百萬的合同。

7. do you read me? 本為通訊用語。read與understand同義。

3. look 一般多用vi+at，此處是vt，“注視”之意。

4. screw up 犯錯(cuò)，搞砸。是不及物動(dòng)詞短語。

wuss 自嘲，自貶

A. Since I am so shy，I’m basically too much of a wuss to ask any girls out. What should/can I do?

A. Acceptance isn’t the same thing as surrender. When you surrender,you give up，you wuss out，you say you don’t care about the way anything turns out anymore. Acceptance is more of an understanding. You admit to yourself that something has happened. You see the situation for what it is，both good and bad，and you aren’t afraid to acknowledge ugliness or mistakes.

接受與投降不同，投降等于放棄、屈服，等于說對(duì)事情的結(jié)果并不介意；而接受則多少是一種體會(huì)，自己承認(rèn)事情已經(jīng)發(fā)生，無論好壞，事實(shí)擺在眼前，而且你勇于承認(rèn)事情的邪惡或錯(cuò)誤。

2. wussification 懦夫趨向，懦弱表現(xiàn)
