We played on zither dear,

Incense from burner rose,

撥金猊，

Singing the lovebirds’ song, together we stayed close.

那時同唱鷓鴣詞。

Tonight wind and rain rage in western bower drear,

如今風(fēng)雨西樓夜，

How can I not shed tears

不聽清歌也淚垂。
