not的獨(dú)立應(yīng)用
not接在think, believe, guess, hope, expect, hear, say, am afraid等動(dòng)詞后面可單獨(dú)用以代表否定的陳述。(so代表肯定的陳述)
It looks like rain. Is it going to rain?
看起來要下雨的樣子，會(huì)下雨嗎？
I think so/I don't think so/I think not. 我想會(huì)/我想不會(huì)。
His heart disease is getting worse. I hope not.
他的心臟病變嚴(yán)重了。 希望不會(huì)。
Will he sponsor us？ I'm afraid not.
他會(huì)出錢贊助我們嗎？ 恐怕不會(huì)。
Is he angry with us? I guess not.
他生我們的氣嗎? 我猜是沒有。
Tony is going to marry Janice . I hope /guess /am afraid not.
Tony 要跟Janice結(jié)婚了。 希望/猜/恐怕不會(huì)。
Will his father punish him? I expect /hope /say not.
他爸爸會(huì)處罰他嗎？ 希望/我說不會(huì)。
Will Mary ask us for help? I believe /suppose not.
