4. 守門之星 What Do I Do?
IV. Goalie - What do I do? (4)
Mark turned back to play in the soccer game. I stood beside the goal and kept thinking about whether to run or stay. Suddenly, I was running out into the field. I could not believe I was doing it, but I was. Mark kicked the ball to me. I had the ball! I was so scared that I quickly kicked back to him. This went on for the rest of the night, the ball coming to me and me kicking it away to someone else. Over time, I became braver. I ran for the ball. I stole the ball from other players. I kicked the ball into the other goal and scored points for my team. I kept becoming a better player, and in the background Mark was cheering. For the first time in my life, I felt like I was good at a sport!
For a week, I played soccer each night. One night, the group began to plan who would be on each team. We changed teams each night. As I walked from the goal, I heard them saying my name. Usually when I heard my name when teams were being picked, it meant they did not want me. But this time, it was different.
Kate declared strongly, "We have Anita!"
"No,?Mark said. 揥e have Anita!"
One of Kate抯 team laughed and said, "Goalie!"
Mark took a step forward and said again that I would be on his team. They looked almost like they would fight over me. But Kate's team shrugged and I joined Mark抯 team.
We formed a circle and leaned in to plan our game. "We will play in the back," Nate said. "You go out there, in the middle of the field."
One of the girls raised her hand. "And Anita is Goalie. She抯 really good at it." "Yes, Anita is Goalie," Mark replied, and looked to me. "That is, if you want to," he asked.
I nodded and my teammates ran to their places on the field. I walked towards that far-away goal, with a wide grin on my face.
I had found where I belonged, and something my team wanted me to do. I was happy and excited to play sports now. I was Goalie.
