On a recent podcast appearance, “Teen Wolf” show runner Jeff Davis reveals the show was meant to end with Season 5.
Davis appeared on Artist Alley Podcast to talk about his experience as a writer and showrunner, talking first about developing “Criminal Minds,” and then discussing the creative process for “Teen Wolf” — plus everything in between.
Of particular interest comes at the end of the podcast when the host asks Davis what’s next for “Teen Wolf.” Will they ever graduate high school? Will the show end once the heroes have hit 20?
“We’re still debating that because, I have to be honest, I thought Season 5 was it. I thought we were ending,” Davis says. MTV, however, ordered an additional 20 episodes, meaning the show will carry on for at least a couple more years.
“I have no idea what’s going to happen with Season 6,” Davis continues. He also jokes, “I have no idea if I’ll be alive after 5B.”
When we spoke to Davis and lead actor Tyler Posey at Comic-Con this year, the pair said they did have some ideas, but nothing was set in stone just yet. Posey, in particular, was looking forward to seeing what the show would be like without the high school, given it is like its own character.
Posey’s idea was to possibly do a time jump, which is an element shows have taken on in the past that allows the story to feel fresh. It was most recently done on “Pretty Little Liars.”
The biggest challenge for Davis might be yet to come, however. It was recently announced that Davis would be penning the plot for the television adaption of “Let the Right One In,” as well as executive producing.
“The pilot will have elements from the book, but tell a new, different story,” he says of the A&E show. “It will be, if the series goes forward, a whole lot darker. I never imagined myself doing a vampire show, actually, but something about this one kind of captured me. I don’t know how involved with the show I’ll be if it does move forward, but we’ll see.”
It’ll be interesting to see how Davis balances the two shows. Fans of Teen Wolf are obviously happy about getting season 6, despite its currently unknown future. And considering Davis’ past success with “Criminal Minds” and “Teen Wolf,” “Let the Right One In” will certainly be one to keep an eye on.
