公司高管Peter, Jason和Helen開(kāi)會(huì)討論員工保健項(xiàng)目。大家都贊成把地下室改成健身中心，為員工健身提供方面?？蓡?wèn)題在于，怎樣才能要求員工去健身呢？ Helen就提出了這個(gè)問(wèn)題。

H: The gym is a good step. But Peter is asking how to mandate fitness.

J: I'd say there is really only one way to mandate anything: we'll have to set reasonable goals for people and then penalize them financially if they don't make it.

P: I'm afraid Jason is 100% correct. I think the only way to really see changes is to hit people where it hurts: in their wallets.

如何才能要求員工去健身？how to mandate fitness. mandate, 有命令的意思。 Jason建議，唯一強(qiáng)迫員工去健身的辦法就是預(yù)設(shè)合理目標(biāo)，如果不能達(dá)標(biāo)， if they don't make it，就采取罰款的方式。 Peter認(rèn)為，Jason is 100% correct. Jason百分之百正確。要想見(jiàn)成果，就一定要hit people where it hurts，擊中要害，對(duì)員工來(lái)說(shuō)，他們的要害就是their wallets他們的錢包。

H: Ok...how about this for a plan: if you are a smoker or seriously overweight you have two options. One: quit smoking and/or lose weight and you keep your corporately funded health plan. Or two: Ignore our health warnings and you have to pay the 25% difference out of your pocket.

Helen建議，可以給吸煙或肥胖的員工兩種選擇two options。 一種是： quit smoking and /or lose weight戒煙，減肥，這樣就可以繼續(xù)享受公司出錢購(gòu)買的醫(yī)療保健計(jì)劃。

第二種是： ignore your health warnings，不顧健康方面的警告，也就是說(shuō)不戒煙，不減肥，那你的醫(yī)療保健費(fèi)用就要有四分之一得自己掏腰包，out of your pocket。

J: You know...that sounds reasonable.

P: I'm inclined to agree. We're not being unreasonable and we are trying to do our part.

H: But people will have to meet us half way.

P: Thank you Helen and Jason. I appreciate your ideas.

開(kāi)會(huì)的三位主管都覺(jué)得這種辦法合情合理，reasonable, 作為公司，應(yīng)該給員工提供一些健身保健方面的便利條件，但是與此同時(shí)，people will have to meet us half way. Meet somebody half way意思是做出必要的妥協(xié)和讓步，在這里，是指員工也應(yīng)該積極響應(yīng)公司提出的健身號(hào)召。
