A: So Monica, this week we're going to talk about technology and how maybe technology changes patterns of how we read and how we write, so let's talk about reading. Do you think you read fewer books now because of the Internet?

B: I don't think I read fewer books now because of the Internet.

A: So you still read quite a bit?
 
所以你現(xiàn)在仍會看很多書？
 
B: Yeah, recently I've been reading quite a bit, but I think it's more to do with how much spare time I have.
 
對，最近我看了很多書，我認為看書的多少與我有多少空閑時間有很大的關系。
 
A: So you don't think that the internet eats into reading time at all? At least for you?
 
所以你完全不認為網(wǎng)絡耗費掉了閱讀時間？至少對你來說不是？
 
B: I would have to say no because I use the internet for slightly different reasons. I use the internet to check my e-mail and communicate with my friends, but reading a book is something completely different that I do for relaxation. So yeah, I don't think it has impacted the amount that I read.

A: Yeah, you see, for me I think it's the exact opposite, it's pretty bad. I pretty much read everything online, magazines or newspapers, and occasionally I'll still buy a newspaper but I've completely stopped reading books. I just do not read books anymore and I think I'm not alone...I've read online, ironically, of other people who say that they've stopped reading books because you're so used to reading online now that the actual process of sitting down and reading a book just isn't as enjoyable as it used to be.
 
你看，我的情況和你完全相反，網(wǎng)絡的影響太大了。我現(xiàn)在基本上都是在線閱讀，包括看雜志和報紙等，我偶爾還會買份報紙，不過我?guī)缀跬耆毁I書了。我不再看實體書了，我想這樣做的不只是我……我都是在線閱讀，諷刺的是，有人說他們不再看實體書是因為現(xiàn)在他們已經(jīng)非常習慣于在線閱讀，而傳統(tǒng)的坐下來看書的感覺已經(jīng)不再像以前那么享受了。
 
B: Well, having said that it doesn't affect how much I read, I have to say that I have stopped reading newspapers in hard copy form. I tend to check the news items on the websites so, yeah, in that regard, I do read less than I used to.
 
我剛才說網(wǎng)絡對我的閱讀沒有造成太多影響，不過我要承認，我已經(jīng)不再買印刷的報紙了。我一般會在網(wǎng)絡上查看新聞，從這方面來看，我的閱讀量的確比以前少了。
 
A: So you buy newspapers quite rarely?

B: Yeah, exactly. I'm also concerned about the environment so I sort of feel that if I can get the news from the Internet then it's saving all the trees being cut down and printed into a newspaper form. Yeah.

A: That's a good way to look at it.
