A:  I can't remember if I told or not,but I'm from France.
 
我不記得我是否告訴過(guò)你，我來(lái)自法國(guó)。
 
B:  Really? You hardly have an accent.
 
真的？你幾乎沒(méi)帶什么口音。
 
A:  Anyway ,I'd like to explain a little about the historcial development of e-mail in Europe,actually in France.Now you see we in France do have our own system to support electronic correspondence .It's called an intranet.
 
不論如何，我想解釋一點(diǎn)關(guān)于電子郵件在歐洲特別是在法國(guó)的發(fā)展歷史。現(xiàn)在你可以看到在法國(guó)我們有自己的系統(tǒng)來(lái)支持電子通信業(yè)務(wù)。人們稱(chēng)之為內(nèi)部網(wǎng)。
 
B:  Isn't that what used in Net-works within companies and stuff.
 
是不是在公司和職員之間的計(jì)算機(jī)網(wǎng)絡(luò)上操作使用的。
 
A:  Something like that .Well ,France came up with this computer network the intranet-before the introduction of the internet.
 
有點(diǎn)像，嗯，法國(guó)在互聯(lián)網(wǎng)介紹進(jìn)來(lái)之前就有了這種電腦網(wǎng)站——內(nèi)部網(wǎng)。
 
B:  Intranet.I think I've heard of that ...
 
內(nèi)部網(wǎng)。我想我曾聽(tīng)說(shuō)過(guò)……
 
A:  It was very popular and a very exciting technological advance.
 
這是一個(gè)非常受人歡迎，非常令人激動(dòng)的技術(shù)性突破。
 
B: Wait,Isn't that what companies use to keep their employees connected.
 
等等，是不是公司用來(lái)保持與他們雇員聯(lián)系的？
 
A:  Yeah,That's one kind of intranet.
 
是的，這只是其中一種。
 
B:  But on the intranet you can only send messages to people who share your same network.It's like a big club.
 
但是在這種網(wǎng)上，你只能發(fā)送信息給和你聯(lián)網(wǎng)的人，就像一個(gè)大俱樂(lè)部。
 
A:  Exactly and that was the problem with the intranet in France...But I'm getting ahead of myself.
 
確切地說(shuō)在法國(guó)這種網(wǎng)有一個(gè)大問(wèn)題是……我現(xiàn)在找不著頭緒了。
 
B:  Sorry,I didn't mean to interrupt you.
 
對(duì)不起，我并不想打斷你。
 
A:  Like I was saying it was very popular and very advanced but it was limited in its range.
 
正如我所說(shuō)，它非常受人歡迎而且很先進(jìn)，但在區(qū)域范圍上有局限。
 
B:  That's when the internet came along.
 
這是在互聯(lián)網(wǎng)出現(xiàn)以后……
 
A:  Right ,It was introduced in France some time after the intranet had been adopted by quite a few people.However it was slightly more appealing because it was not limited in range to France.
 
是的，在內(nèi)部網(wǎng)已經(jīng)被相當(dāng)一部分人接受以后的一段時(shí)間，才被介紹到法國(guó)來(lái)的?？墒撬€是有一定的吸引力，因?yàn)閷?duì)于法國(guó)來(lái)說(shuō)，它在范圍上是不受限制的。
 
B:  Did the internet really pose much of a threat to the intranet?
 
互聯(lián)網(wǎng)真的對(duì)內(nèi)部網(wǎng)已夠成相當(dāng)威脅了嗎？
 
A:  Yes and no.It wasn't too successful because people were already used to the intranet and it was not too convenient to get everyone to swith.However,it's competitive advantage came from the fact that it's scope was much larger and this larger and this was a huge advantage in eyes of a younger generation.
 
可以說(shuō)是也可以說(shuō)不是。這并不是很成功，因?yàn)槿藗円呀?jīng)習(xí)慣內(nèi)部網(wǎng)了，而且任何人都可以互通信息也并不很方便。但是，它有一個(gè)競(jìng)爭(zhēng)優(yōu)勢(shì)就在于它的范圍要大得多，在年輕一代人的眼中，這是一個(gè)巨大的優(yōu)勢(shì)。
 
B:  Fascinating ,So that's why the internet is not so widely used in France.
 
這太有趣了，這就是為什么互聯(lián)網(wǎng)在法國(guó)不是很普及的原因。
 
A:  In part....and in my opinion ,it's going to take some time to make the shift.Hey look there's the Post Office.
