2006年全校各類在校學生36533人，其中本科生13627人，，專科生1479人，碩士生5088人人、博士生2104人、留學生364人、遠程教育和繼續(xù)教育學生近13 871人。60多年來為國家培養(yǎng)了125156名各類高層次人才。

學校重視開展國內(nèi)和國際交流與合作，與29個國家和地區(qū)的90余所高校建立了校際合作關系。

歷史變遷 Glorious History

1939年北京理工大學的前身—延安自然科學院成立。

In 1939，Yan'an Academy of Natural Science，the predecessor of BIT was founded

1945年1月延安自然科學院改名為晉察冀邊區(qū)工業(yè)專門學校。

In January 1946，Yan'an Academy of Natural Science was renamed Jin-Cha-Ji Remote Area Industrial College.

1948年10月晉察冀邊區(qū)工業(yè)專門學校與北方大學工學院合并，成立華北大學工學院。

In October 1948，the Engineering College of North-China University was founded on the basis of the merging of Jin-Cha-Ji Remote Area Industrial College and the Engineering College of Northern University

1949年8月華北大學工學院遷人北京。

In August 1949，the Engineering College of North-China University moved to Beijing

1951年11月18日華北大學工學院改名為北京工業(yè)學院。

On November 18，1951，Engineering College of North-China University was renamed Beijing Institute ofTechnology(BIT).

1959年中央政府批準北京工業(yè)學院為全國首批16所重點院校之一

In 1959，BiT was designated as one of the sixteen key universities in China bythe central government

1988年4月2日北京工業(yè)學院更名為北京理工大學。

In 1988，the institution changed its Chinese name from“Institute" to“University" with the English name remaining unchanged.

1995年12月北京理工大學被批準為“211工程”大學之一。

In December 1995，BIT was ratified by the central government as one of the Project 211”universities.
