Traditional Chinese characters are the complex form of characters that were formally replaced by a simplified style introduced in 1956. Traditional Chinese characters are inseparable from the five-thousand- year history of Chinese civilization. This link to a large extent has made traditional Chinese characters the synonym of ancient Chinese civilization, which symbolizes the splendid Chinese culture. Currently, traditional characters are mainly used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and among overseas Chinese communities where the number of users is over 30 million.
