17. 秦的統(tǒng)一

With the defeat of the other six warring kingdoms, Qin Shi Huang unified the northern China. The king of Qin became the First Emperor of Qin in China. As emperor, Qin Shi Huang reorganized the bureaucracy, abolishing the existing nobility and replacing nobles with officials appointed by him. He also built a network of roads, with the capital of Xianyang at the hub. In addition, the emperor simplified the written Chinese script, standardized weights and measures, and minted new copper coins. In his reign for 35 years, he managed to create magnificent and enormous construction projects. He also brought incredible cultural and intellectual growth, as well as a lot of disasters to China.

秦始皇滅掉六國(guó)（six warring kingdoms）之后，統(tǒng)一了中國(guó)北方。秦國(guó)國(guó)王成為了中國(guó)的秦始皇帝。作為皇帝，秦始皇重組了官僚機(jī)構(gòu)（bureaucracy），廢除了既有的貴族，并以他任命的官員取代。他還建立了以都城咸陽(yáng)為中心的道路網(wǎng)。此外，秦始皇還簡(jiǎn)化漢字的寫(xiě)法，統(tǒng)一度量衡（weights and measures），鑄造了新的銅幣。在35年的統(tǒng)治中，他建造了宏偉龐大的建筑工程，也帶來(lái)了難以置信的文化和知識(shí)的增長(zhǎng)，同時(shí)也給中國(guó)帶來(lái)了許多災(zāi)難。
