Dearest Michael,

It’s only been four days since you went to Tokyo, but it seems like it’s been four years. I miss you so much already. I know you had to go, but I wish you could stay here in Taiwan all of the time. Why can’t you ask your company to assign you here permanently? Then we could be together all the time.

I still manage to get up and go to work every day, but everything seems so meaningless without you here. Even when I go to my favorite restaurant for lunch, the food seems tasteless. I want you here with me. Hurry back. I can’t survive for long without you.

最親愛的麥可：

你到東京才四天，但好象已經(jīng)過了四年。我已經(jīng)非常想念你。我知道你不得不去，可是我希望你能一直待在臺(tái)灣這里。你為什么不能要求你的公司將你永久派駐在這里呢?那樣的話，我們就可以永遠(yuǎn)在一起了。

字詞解說：

1. terribly 非常地

例:That test was terribly difficult.

(那次考試非常難。)

2. settled 安居/頓的

settle 安居/定/身

例:It took our cat a few weeks to settle into his new home.

(我們的貓花了幾個(gè)星期的時(shí)間才在它的新居安定下來。)

3. take. . . off.二把……自y.…移開

例:When you are driving, you should never take your eyes off the road.

(開車時(shí)不可以把視線從馬路上移開。)

4. loneliness 孤單，寂寞

5. think about sb想著某人

例:Mike is always thinking about his ex-girlfriend.

(麥克老是想著他的前任女友。)

6. unlikely 不可能的

It is unlikely+that從句不可能……

例:It is unlikely that he will change his mind.

(他不可能改變主意。)

7. be in one' s arms在某人的懷抱里

注意:

此處的arms一定是復(fù)數(shù)，arms表“懷抱'，若說in one's arm,

則表示“在某人的手臂中”。

例:The baby sleeps best when he is in his mother's arms.

(小寶寶在媽媽的懷抱里睡得最安詳。)
