1. 主要用來表示“根據”某學說、某書刊、某文件、某人所說等或表示“按照”某法律、某規(guī)定、某慣例、某情況等：

According to the weather forecast, we shall have rain tomorrow. 根據天氣預報，明天會下雨。
According to John there will be a meeting next week. 據約翰說，下星期有個會議。
Each man will be paid according to his ability. 每個人將根據他的能力獲得報酬。
2. 表示“根據”、“按照”時，主要用來引出狀語，一般不用來引出表語：
這本書是根據一個真實故事寫的。
正：The book is based on a true story.
誤：The book is according to a true story.
當它表示“合乎”、“符合”時，可用來引出表語：
It is not according to his nature to give praise. 他本性不喜歡頌揚。
3. 其后一般不接 view (看法) 和 opinion (意見) 這類詞，也不接表示第一人稱的代詞 (me, us)：
正：In my opinion, the film is wonderful. 依我看，這部電 影很不錯。
誤：According to my opinion, the film is wonderful.
誤：According to me, the film is wonderful.
