not to speak of意為“不用說”，相當(dāng)于not to mention。但是二者并不完全一樣：not to mention后面可以接句子，而not to speak of后面只能接名詞或名詞性短語。如：
We're too busy to take a long holiday this year, not to mention the fact that we can't afford it. 我們今年太忙，不能去度長(zhǎng)假，更何況我們也出不起這筆錢。
The boy hasn't learned arithmetic, not to speak of algebra. 這孩子算術(shù)還沒學(xué)會(huì)，更別說代數(shù)了。

與not to speak of和not to mention含義相近的短語還有much less，但是much less只能修飾帶否定含義的句子，而not to mention則沒有這個(gè)限制。如：
