Pink is opening up in more detail about the moment she almost died from an overdose as a teenager only a few weeks before she signed her first record deal.
"Thanksgiving of 1995, I was at a rave and I overdosed," she revealed during a new interview with 60 Minutes. "I was on, oh boy, ecstasy, angel dust, crystal, all kinds of things. Then I was out. Done. Too much."
When asked if she "almost died," the Grammy winner confirmed, "Yeah."
The "Just Give Me a Reason" singer explained that moment was a turning point for her, and she stopped using "hard drugs" after that. Weeks later, she signed her first record deal with R&B girl group Choice, and later went on to launch her solo career in 2000.
It has been more than a decade since Pink has spoken about this incident. In a 2012 interview with Shape when she first revealed what happened, she explained that "it wasn't to the point of going to the hospital, but I remember getting up off the floor in the morning, and that was the last time I ever touched a drug again."
In this new interview, Pink explained that her drug use at an early age stemmed from having a "complicated" relationship with her parents, revealing that a fight with her mother once got physical.
"I was a punk. I had a mouth. I had a chip on my shoulder," she said. "Basically I grew up in a house where every day my parents were screaming at each other, throwing things. They hated each other. And then I got into drugs. I was selling drugs ... I dropped out of high school. I was off the rails."
The 44-year-old mother of two recently postponed her Oct. 17 and 18 shows due to "family medical issues." The singer is currently in the midst of her Summer Carnival tour, which has seen a number of odd gestures from her fans as one concert-goer threw their mother's ashes onstage at a London show, while another handed the singer a giant wheel of cheese. The tour is slated to have over 20 more shows before concluding in Townsville, Australia in the spring after kicking off in Bolton, England in June, and is in support of Pink's ninth studio album, Trustfall, which released in February.
