Julianna Margulies is coming under fire for provocative comments about the Black queer community amid the Israel-Hamas war.
In conversation with Andy Ostroy on his Back Room podcast, the actress railed against support for Palestine and said the "entire Black community" may have been "brainwashed to hate Jews." And should they step foot in an Islamic country, they would be the "first people beheaded" to be "played with like a soccer ball," she said.
The comments came after Ostroy said that "people hate Jews" and dived more into antisemitism in the country, suggesting that there's more of an uproar over using "the wrong pronouns on college campuses."
The actress answered, “It’s those kids who are spewing this antisemitic hate, that have no idea if they stepped foot in an Islamic country — these people who want us to call them they/them, or whatever they want us to call them, which I have respectfully made a point of doing — it’s those people that will be the first people beheaded and their heads played with like a soccer ball. And that’s who they’re supporting? Terrorists who don’t want women to have their rights? LGBTQ people get executed."
Margulies then claimed that a "Black lesbian club" at Columbia University screened a film and "put signs up that said, 'No Jews allowed.'" (The signs actually said, "Zionists aren’t invited," according to the New York Post.) "As someone who plays a lesbian journalist on The Morning Show, I am more offended by it as a lesbian than I am as a Jew," she said. "Because I wanna say to them, ‘You f---ing idiots. You don’t exist. You’re even lower than the Jews. A. You’re Black, and B. You’re gay and you’re turning your back against the people who support you?’ Because Jews, they rally around everybody.”
瑪格麗絲隨后聲稱(chēng),哥倫比亞大學(xué)的一個(gè)“黑人女同性戀俱樂(lè)部”放映了一部電影,并“張貼標(biāo)語(yǔ),上面寫(xiě)著‘猶太人不得入內(nèi)’。”(據(jù)《紐約郵報(bào)》報(bào)道,這些標(biāo)語(yǔ)實(shí)際上寫(xiě)的是“猶太復(fù)國(guó)主義者不受邀請(qǐng)”。)“作為一個(gè)在The Morning Show中飾演女同性戀記者的人,作為女同性戀,我比作為猶太人更感到被冒犯,”她說(shuō)。“因?yàn)槲蚁雽?duì)他們說(shuō),‘你們這些該死的白癡。你不存在。你們甚至比猶太人還低。第一,你是黑人,第二,你是同性戀,你卻對(duì)支持你的人置之不理?’因?yàn)楠q太人,他們團(tuán)結(jié)在每個(gè)人周?chē)?rdquo;
Later, she said Adolf Hitler "got his entire playbook from the Jim Crow South." "In the civil rights movement, the Jews were the ones that walked side by side with the Blacks to fight for their rights. And now the Black community isn’t embracing us and saying, ‘We stand with you the way you stood with us.'" She added, "The fact that the entire Black community isn’t standing with us to me says either they just don’t know, or they’ve been brainwashed to hate Jews."
"Here's what kills me," she later added. "These kids are calling Jews colonialists. If you're gonna go with that argument, kids, then get the f--- out of America. Because you were not here first. Native Americans were here first and you owe them a big f---ing apology."
Representatives for Margulies had no immediate comment when reached by EW, but suggested that a statement may be forthcoming.
The actress recently penned an op-ed for USA Today about the conflict, which called out the "silence" of her non-Jewish friends.
