1--When you listen to American English, you might hear this: Last-Ditch Effort
2--Let's find out what it means. Listen:
1--Did you watch that basketball game last night?
2--Yeah, that shot at the end of the game was a real last-ditch effort to try and win.
1--But it's hard to make the basket from that far away!
2--Too bad he didn't make it. He could've won the game for the team.
1--A last-ditch effort is a final attempt to succeed at something.
2--It is a difficult thing to do. It may or may not work.
1--In our example, the basketball player's last-ditch effort to make a basket did not work, and his team lost the game.
