[03:28.82]Passage Accepting an Invitation in America
[03:38.67]Once you accept an invitation,it is better not to change you mind.
[03:47.50]Americans arrange the table and food for the number of guests they have invited.
[03:54.76]Americans are particular about time.
[04:00.12]But they do not expect you to come "on time",
[04:05.68]rather 15 minutes later than the time specified.
[04:12.53]For instance,if you are invited to come at six,
[04:18.69]the host will expect you no earlier than that time
[04:24.44]and probably no later than fifteen minutes after six.
[04:30.50]It is an American custom to show guests around the house,
[04:36.98]but they do not expect you to touch everything you see.
[04:42.85]If you are interested in something you see,
[04:48.50]you should ask for permission to touch it.
[04:53.46]At the table,conversation is general,
[04:59.23]but you should comment about how good the food is.
[05:05.08]If you truly do not like the food,
[05:09.92]you may say something about how nice it looks or ask how it is prepared.
[05:17.36]Except on a very formal occasion,
[05:23.42]it is all right to help yourself to more food.
[05:28.57]Do not wait to be helped every time you finish something.
[05:35.05]If you truly want something,do not say "No" for the sake of politeness.
