in the nick of time

解詞釋義：

在18世紀(jì)以前人們是通過(guò)木簽(tally)上的刻痕來(lái)記賬和計(jì)時(shí)的。這種刻痕叫做notch，也稱(chēng)作nick。此語(yǔ)原作in the nick，而of time是后面加上去的，先表示“在關(guān)鍵時(shí)刻”。此語(yǔ)中可以加very一詞用于強(qiáng)調(diào)。
