第16單元 “發(fā)亮”杰克
Each year at the full moon party, musicians, performers and gypsies come from far and wide tocelebrate the new moon. There are people playing strange instruments and performing wild stunts. Each year Lightening Jack is always the favorite entertainer.
一年一度的滿月派對(duì)上，都會(huì)有各地來(lái)的樂(lè)師、表演者和吉普賽人群集慶祝新月的到來(lái)。有人會(huì)彈奏一些奇怪的樂(lè)器，也有人表演精彩的絕技。每年最受歡迎的表演者一直都是“發(fā)亮”杰克。
He is a daring and adverturous performer. He wears interesting clothing from foreign countries. His ears are pierced with shark teeth. He smells of flowers and sweet oils and he wears his long blond hair in two braids that hang down almost to his knees.
他是個(gè)既勇敢又愛(ài)冒險(xiǎn)的表演家。他穿著來(lái)自外國(guó)的趣味服裝，耳洞上穿有鯊魚(yú)牙齒;他身上有花朵和甜油的味道，留著一頭長(zhǎng)長(zhǎng)的金發(fā)，兩條辮子幾乎垂到膝蓋上。
Just by looking at him, people can tell that he is different from most.
大家光從外表就分得出來(lái)，他和大部分人都不一樣。
Lightening Jack has traveled all over the world learning new tricks to perform for the moon party. People call him "Lightening Jack" because of the trick he is famous for—Fire Throwing.
“發(fā)亮”杰克曾到世界各地旅行，學(xué)習(xí)滿月派對(duì)表演用的新花招。人們會(huì)叫他“發(fā)亮杰克”是因?yàn)樗钣忻陌褢虮闶?ldquo;拋火秀”。
Jack has two ropes that he dips in gas and then lights them on fire. When the music starts, Jack throws, twists, and turns the rope around his body and into the air. It is a beautiful and dangerous sight to see. But for Jack, this is an adventure. For him, it is a thrill every time.
杰克讓兩條繩索浸上汽油，然后點(diǎn)火讓繩子燒起來(lái);等音樂(lè)聲響起，杰克便用繩子在身體周圍又拋又扭地轉(zhuǎn)來(lái)轉(zhuǎn)去，最后還會(huì)拋向空中。這樣的景象既美麗又危險(xiǎn)，可是對(duì)杰克來(lái)說(shuō)，這確實(shí)一場(chǎng)冒險(xiǎn)。對(duì)他而言，每一回的表演都讓他膽戰(zhàn)心驚。
