第16單元 沒有母牛的新農(nóng)場(chǎng)
A man from up state had always dreamed of owninghis own cattle ranch, and finally made enough moneyto buy himself the spread of his dreams in Texas.
有個(gè)人住在遠(yuǎn)離大城市的地區(qū),一直夢(mèng)想著擁有一座屬于自己的養(yǎng)牛場(chǎng)。他最后賺夠了錢,在德州給自己買了一個(gè)夢(mèng)想中的農(nóng)場(chǎng)。
"So, what did you name the ranch?" asked his bestfriend when he flew out to visit.
“那你給這座農(nóng)場(chǎng)取什么名字?”他最好的朋友搭機(jī)來探望他時(shí)問道。
"We had a heck of a time," admitted the new cowboy. "Couldn't agree on anything."
"的確有那么一陣子,"這個(gè)新牛仔承認(rèn)道:“大家一直無法取得共識(shí)。”
We finally settled on the "big and beautiful Outback—but not too far outback—Texan ranch."
最后我們敲定“又大又美的內(nèi)地——但不是太遠(yuǎn)的內(nèi)地——德州人農(nóng)場(chǎng)”這個(gè)名字。
"Wow. That is a long name for a ranch," said his friend. "So where are all the cows?"
“哇,對(duì)農(nóng)場(chǎng)來說,這可是很長(zhǎng)的名字哩。”他朋友說:“那母牛都跑哪里去了?”
"None of'em survived the branding."
“母牛身上烙印了農(nóng)場(chǎng)的名字后,一只都沒活下來。”
