“你們還有空位讓別的選手加入嗎?”勞倫和藹可親地問(wèn)道。
Carlisle matched Laurent's friendly tone. "Actually, wewere just finishing up. But we'd certainly beinterested another time. Are you planning to stay inthe area for long?"
卡萊爾配合著勞倫友好的語(yǔ)氣說(shuō)道。“其實(shí)，我們正要結(jié)束游戲。但下次的話我們一定會(huì)很樂(lè)意的。你們打算在這個(gè)地區(qū)久留嗎?”
"We're headed north, in fact, but we were curious to see who was in the neighborhood. Wehaven't run into any company in a long time."
“事實(shí)上，我們正在去北方的路上，但我們都很好奇，想看看是誰(shuí)住在這附近。我們已經(jīng)很久沒(méi)有碰到過(guò)同類了。”
"No, this region is usually empty except for us and the occasional visitor, like yourselves."

The tense atmosphere had slowly subsided into a casual conversation; I guessed that Jasperwas using his peculiar gift to control the situation.

"What's your hunting range?" Laurent casually inquired.
“你們都在哪里狩獵?”勞倫若無(wú)其事地寒暄道。
Carlisle ignored the assumption behind the inquiry. "The Olympic Range here, up and downthe Coast Ranges on occasion. We keep a permanent residence nearby. There's anotherpermanent settlement like ours up near Denali."

Laurent rocked back on his heels slightly.

"Permanent? How do you manage that?" There was honest curiosity in his voice.

"Why don't you come back to our home with us and we can talk comfortably?" Carlisle invited. "It's a rather long story."

James and Victoria exchanged a surprised look at the mention of the word "home," but Laurentcontrolled his expression better.
